Cookie Policy
Effective date: 19 April 2026 · Version 2.0
1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They are used by virtually every modern website for purposes ranging from essential session management to detailed behavioral tracking. Related technologies include local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, and various fingerprinting techniques — all of which this Cookie Policy addresses together.
2. Types of cookies we describe
Cookies fall into several categories distinguished by purpose and legal treatment:
- Strictly necessary (essential). Required for core Service functionality. No consent required under EU e-Privacy Directive.
- Functional. Remember your preferences (language, theme). Consent preferred, fallback to legitimate interest in some jurisdictions.
- Analytics. Help us understand aggregate usage patterns. Consent required under EU e-Privacy Directive and GDPR.
- Marketing. Track visitors across sites for targeted advertising. Ri.NET does not use marketing cookies.
3. Cookies we currently use
The following is the complete list of cookies and related storage mechanisms active on rinet.dev.
Strictly necessary
- rdev_cookie_choice (localStorage). Records your cookie-consent decision. Lifetime: 12 months. Purpose: remembering your choice so we don’t ask again. Without this record we would be obligated to ask on every visit.
- rdev_cookie_timestamp (localStorage). Records when you made the choice, for audit.
- rdev_sid (sessionStorage). A per-visit session identifier used for correlating page views during a single browsing session. Expires when you close the browser tab.
- rinet_auth (httpOnly cookie, only after sign-in). Session token used to maintain authenticated state. Strictly necessary. Expires after inactivity timeout or at sign-out.
Functional (with consent)
- rdev_api_key (localStorage). Stores your free-tier API key after registration so the playground works without requiring you to paste it every time. Only created after explicit registration.
- rdev_tier (localStorage). Reflects your current subscription tier.
Analytics (with explicit consent)
- Self-hosted Plausible. Cookieless by design. Uses no persistent client storage. Records only anonymous page-view events at the server level.
- Google Analytics 4 (optional, only if accepted). GA4 cookies set by Google. Lifetime up to 24 months. Used for campaign attribution only.
4. Your consent
On first visit, rinet.dev presents a cookie banner offering three options:
- Essential only — we set only strictly-necessary storage. No analytics.
- Reject all — equivalent to "essential only" for this site.
- Accept all — enables analytics cookies in addition to the essential storage.
You may change your choice at any time by clearing localStorage and refreshing the page, which will re-present the banner.
5. Cookie lifetimes
We distinguish between:
- Session — deleted when you close the browser tab.
- Persistent — retained until explicit expiry or manual deletion.
Every item listed in section 3 includes its lifetime.
6. Third-party cookies
Ri.NET intentionally minimizes third-party cookies. The following third parties may set cookies in specific circumstances:
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google OAuth, and only on the domains Google controls. Governed by Google’s privacy policy.
- LinkedIn — only if you sign in with LinkedIn OAuth. Governed by LinkedIn’s privacy policy.
- Stripe — only on payment pages and only if you progress to paid checkout. Governed by Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — we may use Cloudflare in front of some assets. Cloudflare may set bot-protection cookies.
7. Non-cookie tracking technologies
We are transparent about the fact that cookie management alone does not address all forms of client identification. In addition to cookies, rinet.dev uses:
- Browser fingerprinting (see the Privacy Policy, section 7). Used for security, fraud prevention, and analytics.
- Server-side request logs — IP address, user-agent, request path. Required for operating a web service.
- Local storage and session storage (described in section 3 above).
8. How to control cookies
You have multiple mechanisms to control cookies and related storage on rinet.dev:
- Use the cookie-consent banner to select a preference (sections 3 and 4).
- Clear localStorage and sessionStorage through your browser’s developer tools.
- Use browser-level cookie blocking for specific origins.
- Use privacy-enhancing browsers (Brave, Firefox with hardened settings, Tor).
- Use a VPN to control the IP address visible to our server.
9. Browser-specific instructions
Major browsers provide cookie-control instructions:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Safari menu → Settings → Privacy.
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services.
- Brave: Settings → Shields → Trackers & ads blocking.
10. Withdrawing consent
You may withdraw your analytics consent at any time by clearing localStorage on rinet.dev (specifically the rdev_cookie_choice key) and reloading. The cookie banner will then reappear and allow you to select "Essential only" or "Reject all".
11. Legal framework
This Cookie Policy is maintained pursuant to the European Union’s e-Privacy Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC (the "Cookie Directive"), the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), and the Dutch implementing legislation including the Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet) as it applies to cookies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, in the applicable law, or in the Service. Material changes will be announced on rinet.dev at least 30 days in advance and, where we already have consent on file, will trigger a renewed consent prompt.
